Hi! I’m JoAnn Goh!
A fashion and style blogger based in Perth, Western Australia.
The Glam Whisperer is about the fashion career dream that I never pursued.
When I was in 4th grade, Francine Pascal the author of the Sweet Valley High novels, inspired me to write novels. In high school, I dreamt of publishing a magazine promoting a healthy self-image for women to counteract the racy and unrealistic images that were sold at the time and I fantasised about managing a fashion boutique or beauty parlour. After leaving high school; I dabbled in a few short courses in writing and make-up artistry. There were so many things that I wanted to do but I just didn’t know how to make them happen.
As it turned out, I followed a different path working as an accountant in the corporate sector. For a while, during which my creative energies were channelled into selecting outfits and make-up looks for work and the weekend. In my spare time, I would create DIY projects and searched the Internet and fashion magazines for endless style inspirations and fantasies. It was then that I realised there was a void in my life from not chasing my dreams, and so The Glam Whisperer was born.
I enjoy experimenting with my personal style which continues to evolve as I grow as a person. Depending on my mood, my style is a paradox of feminine and edgy, fashion forward and understated, classic vs trendy, elegant and rebellious, and dark vs colourful palettes. I don’t believe it’s necessary to have a closet full of designer clothes to look stylish but I like to be inspired by designers each season and achieve the look with a mixture of investment and budget items. I like to take sartorial risks, depending on how much I can get away with, and I believe that it is important to remain true to oneself. Fashion should be fun and a tool to express your creativity.
I hope that you enjoy reading my blog and that you will be inspired to follow the dreams in your heart! XoXo
