Last summer, the lovely Malinda from The Style Within invited me to a blogger’s boat cruise with the Boat Collective. My outfit of choice for the boat cruise was this red, crocheted, Alice McCall “Room Is On Fire” dress. Dressed down with a pair of Converse sneakers which may have been borrowed from my sister’s wardrobe. As we were on our feet on the boat all day, it was important for me to be comfortable and not to be stumbling about in heels.

I never used to be a sneakers and dresses kind of girl – a bit late to the party I know but now I can’t get enough of this combination. I now love dressing down my dresses with either my Adidas Originals, TOMS or Converse sneakers…….it just lends an interesting edge to the outfit.

I’ve worn this dress to my Chinese New Year dinner earlier this year as well, which was a nice and relaxed alternative to wearing a traditional qipao. The thigh splits were similar to a qipao without the frog buttons. As red is symbolic of happiness, prosperity and good luck in Asian culture, I styled the dress with red lace up heels. Children loved playing with my dress as it has a very interesting knitted texture.

I would pack this dress on a sunny tropical holiday with a straw boater hat and a pair of lace up tassel sandals. Go on another boat cruise or perhaps back to Byron again?

xoxo, Jo
